Arlington National Cemetery

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

Know the line has held, your job is done.

Rest easy, sleep well.

Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.

Peace, peace, and farewell....

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Notes:

Since 1992, Morrill Worcester and Worcester Wreath Company have donated over 60,000 wreaths to adorn the headstones at Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Worcester stated:

We couldn't do anything in this country if it wasn't for the people who gave their lives to protect us. It's a great honor to be able to come here and pay our respects.

According to an article posted on the Arlington National Cemetery website, the wreaths will be placed this year beginning on December 14, 2006. See: Wreaths To Be Placed 2006, http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/wreaths-to-be-placed-2006.htm

At the same time, wreaths will be placed at 230 veteran's cemeteries and monuments across the country as a part of the Wreaths Across America project, http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.com/

In 2005, the wreaths were placed on December 15. See: Wreaths-2005.
