The publication of the series Works of Martin Luther began in 1915 with the publication of Volumes 1 & 2, and concluded with the publication of Volumes 3 through 6 beginning in 1930. The translations of Rev. Paul Zeller Strodach and others in this volume formed the basis for many of the texts in Volume 53 of Luther's Works, American Edition, 1965, Revised and Edited by Ulrich S. Leupold.

The primary credit for this volume rests with the editor at GodRulesNet, www.godrules.net, which was the source of these texts. Those texts were evidently generated by Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The text was reformatted, footnotes were added, and corrections to the text were made by comparison to my copy of Volume 6 of Works of Martin Luther (the 1982 reprint by Baker Books). The page numbers from the Baker Books edition are noted in square brackets, e.g., [Page 1], as are any of my editorial notes. Page numbers in the footnotes refer to the original volume. Errors only are my own.

This file and all the individual files are placed in the public domain. All files can be found on-line at http://hymnsandcarolsofchristmas.com/Luther_Liturgy. A bound volume (print on demand) will available for the cost of printing and postage from Lulu.com, upon completion of all the liturgical articles. I will derive no financial profit from the sale of this volume.

Rev. Strodach (1876-1947) served several congregations as their Pastor for the first two decades following his ordination in 1899, and afterwards worked as the literary editor for the United Lutheran Church Publication House in Philadelphia. He was a member of the Lutheran Liturgical Association (1898-1905), and contributed two articles to the Memoirs of the Association (1906). He was also the author of the 1930 volume on liturgy titled A Manual on Worship (Philadelphia: The United Lutheran Publication House, 1930), as well as several other books, including several volumes of sermons. He died in 1947.

I intend to include an appendix containing writings not included in Volume Six which bear on the issue of Luther's thinking concerning liturgical matters. One of these will be “Luther's Liturgical Writings,” E. A. Trabert, from Memoirs of the Lutheran Liturgical Association, 1906.

In addition to these texts, the articles that comprise the Memoirs of the Lutheran Liturgical Association (1906) have also been posted at my web site. These files, too, are in the public domain. A bound print-on-demand volume is also available containing these texts. See: The Memoirs of the Lutheran Liturgical Association.
