The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

There Comes A Vessel Laden

Authorship Unknown

1608, Andernach Gesangbuch

There comes a vessel laden
With full sail flying fast;
She bears a precious burden
Beneath her stalwart mast.

And through the calm blue water
The ship steers in to shore,
To bring us priceless treasures
From deep within her store.

Now that ship's name is Mary,
Most fairest rose is she;
Bearing the infant Jesus
Whose love shall make men free.
