Carol #393, Rev. Charles Lewis Hutchins, Carols Old and Carols New
(Boston: Parish Choir, 1916)

1. O Christmas bells, ring far and near,
Proclaim the Saviour’s birth,
Bid ev’ry Christian heart “Good cheer,”
And tell men of His worth.
Ring sweetly thro’ the midnight sky,
And join the Angels’ song,
For Christ the “True Light” from on high
Hath come to banish wrong.

Chorus
Ring merrily, ring cheerily,
Send high your voices sweet;
And winds of heav’n shall waft our notes
To Salem’s golden streets.

2. O Christmas bells, ring out again
With heaven-born joy and mirth,
Waft to all lands the sweetest Name
That ever came to earth.
Ring out His glory and His power,
His peace and blest good will
And tell how in our darkest hour,
Christ is “God with us” still. Chorus

3. O Christmas bells, come bear your part
With angels in the skies,
To draw from earth each careworn heart,
And upward raise our eyes.
O let your music to us bring
Sweet thoughts of that blest time,
When we shall praise our Christ our King
In heaven’s golden clime. Chorus
