The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

Lovely Baby, Mary Bore

For Christmas

Words and Music: Aur txiki, Old Basque Carol

Words Translated by the Canon John Gray

Source: Richard Runciman Terry, Two Hundred Folk Carols (London: Burns Oates & Washbourne Limited, 1933), Carol #107, pp. 32-33.

1. Lovely Baby; Mary bore Him;
All make haste to kneel before Him;
    Let us go now and adore Him.
    Open quickly; let us in.
    Jesus, Mary, Hail!
    Jesus, Joseph, Hail!

2. Everybody runs to meet Him
All our eagerness to greet Him
    Angels are singing so sweetly:
    Glory be to God on high.
    Jesus, Mary, Hail!
    Jesus, Joseph, Hail!

3. Happy mortals who behold Him;
Happier the arms enfold Him
    Hard on the door of the stable.
    Hard we knock a dozen times.
    Jesus, Mary, Hail!
    Jesus, Joseph, Hail!

Sheet Music from Richard Runciman Terry, Two Hundred Folk Carols (London: Burns Oates & Washbourne Limited, 1933), Carol #107, pp. 32-33.
