Acts 2:26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad ...
1
Lo! my heart rejoices,
When I hear sweet voices,
singing
“Christ is born
In Bethlehem.”
When I hear
the story,
Angels thron'd in glory,
Sang long years ago
o'er Bethlehem.
2
For I know my Saviour
Shews me then His favour,
When I sing
His praises
On Christmas morn.
Come, then, all adore
Him,
Lowly stand before Him,
For Christ is born.
3
Sinners come in meekness,
Jesus knows your weakness,
Now is
born your Saviour
In Bethlehem.
Dawns the promised
morrow,
Trial no longer sorrow,
God's new grace abounding
In Bethlehem.
4
Jesus! Long expected,
Tho' by man rejected,
Dwell within my
heart O
Emmanuel.
Come! Within me tarry,
Helping me to
parry
Satan's fatal darts, O
Emmanuel, Emmanuel.
5
Came a light all beaming,
While the world lay
dreaming,
Shedding forth its radiance
O'er all the
earth.
Heaven's bright glory reigning;
God from heaven
deigning
To dwell a man with us.
O wondrous birth.
6
We new graces gaining,
Christ within is reigning,
Let us
seek and find Him
in Bethlehem.
Learn we then to love
Him,
Be holy as above Him
The heavenly hosts appearing
O'er Bethlehem, O'er Bethlehem
7
Sing we then to Jesus,
God the Son who frees us
From our
earthly burden,
Emmanuel
Lift on high your voices,
Sing!
For heaven rejoices
Go hear our songs of praise,
Emmanuel.
Note: Changed meter for this verse of 66-66-44
8
Lift on high your voices,
Sing! For heaven rejoices
to hear
our songs of praise,
to hear our songs of praise,
to hear our
songs of praise,
Emmanuel, Emmanuel.
