1. Kings, their threefold offerings bringing,
Star-led to the King draw nigh,
By that sign assured for ever
Of the Day-spring from on high;
Tribute-gold the King betokens,
Frankincense the Diety,
Myrrh, the death for man's redemption:
So they learned of prophecy.

2. Still with love's sweet-smelling savours
Eagerly the saints repair,
Whither Christ's new-purchased pardon
Sheds new fragrance in the air:
Erst to sinfulness inclining
Now the bride her dower receives,
Bride of yester morn, and beautied
With a crown of golden leaves.

3. Her the true and heavenly Bridegroom
For Himself in spirit chose;
May that Bridegroom guard and rescue
Us from perils and from woes;
Purge us clean of sinful folly,
That we may accepted be,
And the Father's house inherit,
Rescued from the enemy.
