The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

I Saw A Sweet And Seemly Sight

Words: George R. Woodward

Source: Rev. George R. Woodward, The Babe Of Bethlehem, Being Some Christmas Carols (48 West Hill, Highgate Village, 1923), #07

1. I saw a sweet and seemly sight,
A blissful Burd, a Blossom bright:
A Maiden-Mother, meek and mild,
Had cradled Christ, her comely Child.

2. He softly slept: the sat and sling,
Mid mirth and mourning ever among,
‘By-by, my bonnie Bairn, y-born
Full fain to free thy folk forlorn.’
