The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

To Bob Dylan's tune

1. Come gather round, people, and pause on your way
Weíre asking you now to buy nothing today
The cost may be more than the price you pay
If the earth to you is worth saving
Then youíd better consider the words that we say
For the times, they are a-changing

2. Come ye Christmas shoppers, and look at yourselves
Can joy or contentment be bought off the shelves?
Can anything last thatís made by elves?
Just what is it that you are craving?
Life is just fine without all those whistles and bells
For the times, they are a-changing

3. Come mothers and fathers with children in tow
No war toys or Barbies will help them to grow
You canít buy their love, as you already know
That batteryís rapidly fading
There are no better toys than sand, grass and snow
For the times, they are a-changing

4. Come managers, owners, and donít get us wrong
Weíre all in the same boat, we all hear the song
This overconsumption, it just canít go on
We all have a part to be playing
Let buyers and sellers together be strong
For the times, they are a-changing

5. Buy nothing today, get out of that store
That glitter ainít gold, itís rotten to the core
Woe to the rich, and blessed are the poor
You know itís true what weíre saying
That more is less and less is more
For the times, they are a-changing
