The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

 The Christmas Tree

Christbaum

Words translated from Peter Cornelius

Music: Peter Cornelius

Carol 655, Rev. Charles Lewis Hutchins, Carols Old and Carols New
(Boston: Parish Choir, 1916)

The Christmas tree is sparkling with light,
The tapers twinkle on faces bright,
O happy the time on Christmas night!
The mother sings to her children dear
An ancient carol they love to hear,
How Christmas-time brings to the world good cheer.
Then on the laden Christmas tree,
Their dainty gifts the children see,
With eager eyes and laughing glee.
For ev'ry one there are presents rare,
And each in turn receives a share,
Until the tree is entirely bare,
O happy the time when all unite,
And tapers twinkle on faces bright,
O happy the time on Christmas night!
