The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

Belle of the Ball

By C. Jarboe

To the tune of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer"

I know
Laundry
And cleaning
And shopping
And scrubbing

Washing
And sweeping
And dishes
And dusting

But I can recall
When I was the belle of the ball

I was a teenage sweetheart
Boys were gathered round my feet
If I just raised an eyebrow
All their hearts would miss a beat

Then one night at a party
looking out across the room
My eyes came on a fella
and my heart gave out a boom

Now I'm a mom and housewife too
Do the cleaning bit
Sweetheart dreams are brushed away
I'm lucky to stay awake

Somedays I think of parties
Wondering what I have missed
Then I just look around me
And realize that I am blessed
