The Hymns and Carols of Christmas

Christmas Carols 1833;
or,
Sacred Songs,
Suited to
The Festival of our Lord's Nativity

London: John William Parker, 1833

Published under the direction of the Committee of General Literature and Education, appointed by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.”

For Christmas

Words: Anonymous.

Note:

This collection of original Christmas carols came without any attribution, nor have I been able to locate any source that give credit for these carols. There is no author's or editor's name anywhere in the text. I have found no other mention in other texts.

In the “Account of Christmas Carols,” the author states that he wrote this collection of carols to restore to the genre of carols the proper and essential ingredient: the religious sentiment celebrating the birth of the Savior. Hoping that these carols would become popular, he included an appropriate tune or two for each. And, a few of these carols were selected for inclusion in other collections, always with the attribution: “Christmas Carols 1833.”

Some Account of Christmas Carols, by the Author, pp. 7ff.
