Editor's Note:

The notes from Wackernagel are largely in a Fraktur-type Blackletter, and somewhat difficult to read.  The explanations from Rev. George R Woodward don't seem to correspond with the Blackletter notes. Hopefully, someone well versed in German could assist.

Wackernagel, I, Nos. 327-331, gives five versions:

(i) from the Trier library & from a MS. at Munchen, Cod. Lat. 5023, fifteenth century (five verses)

(ii) from Christ. Adolf's printed book of 1542 (six verses)

(iii) from J. Spangenberg of 1544 (five verses)

(iv) from J. Leifentrit, 1567 (four verses)

(v) from Speierisches Gesangbuch von 1600, the Mainzer Cantual von 1605, and the Baderborner Gesangbuch von 1609(seven verses)
