Free Guestmaps by Bravenet.com

The Guestmap will open in a new window. All posts will be reviewed and approved before they are displayed; this is to prevent offensive postings. Individuals who post attempt to post offensive messages will be permanently blocked. It's possible that the Guestmap service may have to be removed entirely if the level of abuse reaches unacceptable limits.

This is a free service to me from Bravenet; in order to help defray their costs, Bravenet posts an advertisement on the Guestmap.

NB. From their FAQ:

Someone made an offensive posting in my GuestMap. What can I do?
Follow these instructions to delete the message and ban the offending IP:

1. Log into Bravenet and click on "Guestmap" in your list of registered services
2. Click on "Edit Messages"
3. Copy the IP address next to the posting
4. Select the checkbox next to the posting, and click the "Delete Selected" button to remove the posting
5. Click on the Back to Manager button to return to your GuestMap Manager
6. In the Utilities area, click "IP Banning"
7. In the Ban an IP Address section, paste the IP and click the "Add IP" button

If you are worried about young visitors viewing nasty messages, consider turning on the Post Approval feature in your General Settings area. This would give you a chance to review messages before they appear on your GuestMap.

Is there an option to approve or deny posts before they display on my GuestMap?

Yes, to do that you can turn on Post Approval. This will give you a chance to screen the messages before they appear to the public in the "Review Pending" area of your service manager.

To enable Post Approval for your GuestMap service, please do the following:

1. Log into your account and click on "GuestMap" in your list of registered services
2. Click on "General Settings"
3. In the Post Approval section select "Yes, require my approval before displaying new posts."
4. Scroll down and click on the "Save Changes" button

Visitor Alert: It's happening again; someone is "spoofing" the name of this site with unsolicited emails.

To be clear: this site does not send out unsolicited emails under any circumstances. Period.

If you received an email purportedly from this site, it was "spoofed." It did not come from this site, and this site is unable to halt this distribution.

Considering the hundreds of "bounced" messages that are about to inundate my inbox, I can assure you that if I could halt this distribution, I would (not to mention the ill-informed, irate emails that I am about to receive from clueless people who don't understand that nobody sends out this kind of garbage under their own name ... they steal the good names of other, innocent people!)

Vizetelly closes with the following verses from Nedham:

All plums the prophet's sons defy,
    And spice broths are too hot;
Treason's in a December pie,
    And death within the pot.

Christmas, farewell! thy days, I fear,
    Thy merry days are done:
So they may keep feasts all the year,
    Our Saviour shall have none.

Note:

Possibly Marchamont Nedham (1620-1678)? Nedham was a colorful journalist, active during the English Civil War. Some of his work was in verse. Although initially aligned with the Puritans, he switched loyalties to the Royalists when he began to fear that the Puritans were going too far. He later avoided execution by agreeing to write for Cromwell, but ended up briefly in exile after the return of the monarchy under Charles II. For more information about Nedham, see Perils of the Puritan Press. (http://www.worldmag.com/world/olasky/centralideas/chap2.html ; accessed September 26, 2006). See also Marchamont Needham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marchamont_Needham  ; accessed September 26, 2006.

Boyce-Tillman, June, ed., The Galliard Book of Carols. London: Stainer & Bell, 1980.
