English Chorale TraditionHere are a few CDs that I would recommend that come out of the English Chorale tradition. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have. A Festival of Nine Lessons, Choir of King's College. A two-CD set of the famous festival, recorded in 1999. If I'm not able to catch the annual BBC broadcast of this festival (1500 UTC, Dec. 24; rebroadcast at 1400 UTC, Dec. 25), this is a great way to continue the tradition. Especially good during the preparation of Advent.
The John Rutter Christmas Album, The Cambridge Singers and City of London Sinfonia. Outstanding collection of Rutter carols, compiled from several recordings -- contemporary excellence!
O Come All Ye Faithful, King's College Choir, with organist David Briggs. Lush and full.
Christmas Carols From A Cathedral, The Choirs of Bath and Winchester Cathedrals.
The Cambridge Singers Christmas Album, The Cambridge Singers and City of London Sinfonia. Directed by John Rutter, here is a good selection of English traditional carols, European traditional carols, and choruses and motets.
The Holly And The Ivy, Clare College Choir. Also directed by Rutter. English and European carols.
Handel's Messiah, Choir of King's College, Cambridge under the direction of Sir David Willcocks.
This is certainly not an exhaustive listing; it's just the few that I've collected over the years. Each is unique and recommended. More will be added as time allows.
